Advertising and affiliate disclosure

CityFacts is published by Wilburly Brands Inc. The data on this site is free to read and is not sold. The site is paid for, or will be, in two ways described here. Neither one changes a single figure on any page: every tax rate, assessment and census number is generated from the public source files named in the methodology and checked against them when the site is built.

Referral (affiliate) links

Municipality pages may show a block headed "Compare current mortgage rates" with links to mortgage-rate comparison services. When such a link is live, CityFacts may earn a referral fee if you follow it and later request a quote or complete an application with that partner. You pay nothing extra, and the partner does not offer you a different rate because you arrived from this site.

Every paid link is marked in three ways: it appears only inside that labelled block, it carries the HTML attribute rel="sponsored nofollow", and a disclosure sentence is printed beside it. Links elsewhere on the site, such as those to municipal websites, Statistics Canada or the Province of Ontario, are not paid and never will be.

Current status: no referral links are live. The partner programs the site intends to join are Ratehub and nesto; this page will be updated when either link goes live.

Display advertising

CityFacts intends to carry display advertising once traffic is large enough to qualify for an advertising network. No advertising is shown today and no advertising scripts are loaded. When advertising starts, this page and the privacy policy will name the network, and in regions that require consent the ad scripts will load only after you accept the consent prompt.

What is never paid

• Rankings, comparisons and the order of municipalities in any table are computed from the data and cannot be bought.
• No municipality, lender, broker or agent has paid to appear, to be described in a particular way, or to be left out.
• The "Understanding your tax bill" text on each page is generated from that municipality's own figures by fixed rules, not written or edited to favour anyone.
